Awards on the Other Side of the Pond

Countdown to the Oscars continues with the celebs making their way to rainy England for their version of the Oscars: the BAFTAs.

In my attempts to find pictures it seemed that all American search engines were boycotting the BAFTAs and I could only find good ol' Brangelina. But then, in a stroke of particular genius, I thought to go to http://www.google.co.uk/ and actually found some pictures. Yay! Alas, I still didn't find that many. Below is what I could assemble, organized roughly, sort of, from worst to best dressed.

Kristin Scott Thomas was dull in this mismatched and oddly designed black and blue number. Maybe if it was shorter and didn't pool... Maybe if she had stronger makeup or accessories...

It is completely unclear to me why Goldie Hawn would be invited to such an awards show. It is even more unclear to me why I could find many pictures of her in attendance, but not any of actual award-worthy celebs. It is also extremely unclear to me why she is so important as to warrant her own PUH (personal umbrella holder). So I give you this: Goldie Hawn having had so much work done on her face that she is barely recognizable and will actually give me nightmares, and the ill-fitting dress that will haunt me for years to come. It's even worse without the jacket (oozey upper booby areas in the strapless dress), but I thought I would spare you such a sight.

Amy Adams is hoping to emulate Kate Winslet's award winning year by wearing a knock off of her SAG Awards dress... but in a much sadder blue, and a much more annoying mermaid flair.

Marion Cotillard is a beautiful woman, and earns points for standing in the rain with no PUH in sight. I almost like this dress, but am not in love with the fit across her hips with the random folds making her look wider. I do love those shoes though.

Another black, velvet number from Penelope Cruz. Meh.

I actually really like this unconventional dress from Thandie Newton. It does look like you might be able to make it yourself with some tulle and ribbon, but I quite enjoy the look.

I am about understanding your figure and finding outfits to enhance your assets and mask your flaws (hello obsession with tiny-waist-making shift dresses). The very tiny Kylie Minogue gets kudos for finding a dress that makes her actually look long. The 6 inch heels don't hurt, either.

Seems Amy Adams isn't the only one knocking off Kate Winslet's SAG look. Kate Winslet is also knocking off Kate Winslet. Same monochromatic idea, same mermaid cut. Much more boring color. But the halter is quite flattering.

My obsession with Freida Pinto continues with this feminine but interesting bubblegum pink number that does what Olivia Wilde couldn't at the Golden Globes. I do think the fabric strips do odd things with her breasts, though, and desperately wish she had chosen a better color for her skintone (jewel tones, pretty please!), but otherwise think she looks totally lovely.
I love Emma Watson's dress. From perusing 18 different photos I figured out the whole outfit, but no one shot was very good, sorry! I think the shorter dress kept it young for the 18 year old actress, and the embellished collar/halter is totally chic and fun. I am just going to blame her frizzed hair on the rain.
Wait, when did Sharon Stone become smoking hot again? This red dress is jaw droppingly hot on her and makes a huge splash on the otherwise dull BAFTA red carpet. The swish of the fabric as she walks is so enticing, I'll even overlook her decision to wear black hose.

And, lastly, Hollywood's golden couple who can't seem to win any actual awards, but is welcome to stand around looking gorgeous. I am ECSTATIC Angelina did not show up in another oatmeal sack dress. I was really about to cry thinking of all the hotness hidden away under flowing, sad dresses that had no business on the red carpet or on such a hot lady. Well, she must've heard my sadness and came through with this unexpected yellow and black number which is simply to die for. I love the folded pleat of yellow following the line of her body and the neckline is tres hot. Thank you. Thank you.

Now only 5 more days til the Oscars!!! Who will you think will be the belles and beasts of the red carpet?
I pick Freida, Angelina, and Kate to stun us.
