Reader Question: Gaga For Neon

I'm in love with a pair of neon yellow heels. Does that make me weird? Is that okay??!

That definitely does NOT make you weird, but actually makes you extra fabulous.  Neon is definitely the color theme for this spring and summer.  Adding a bright pop of neon color is a super fun way to spice up your wardrobe and brightening up your day.  I know I'm in love with some neon!  How about you?

Color Me Beautiful

I know this trend has been bouncing around for a while, but I all of a sudden caught the colored jean bug.  I found myself with an hour of child-freeness and wandered into the Joe's Jeans down the street and was overcome by their 55 colors of jeans. Yes, 55.  So I decided I had to take at least one color home with me. Or two.

I picked up these red ones.

And these blue ones.

And my oh my are they the comfiest jeans in history. I want to wear them everyday.

What do you think?  Will you be rocking some color this spring?

Do: Try New Colors

People really do get themselves into color funks. Some can't stop wearing black, they're all LBDs all the time. Others are a sad rainbow of brown cardigans. And then there are those who are all animal prints. And even a print can be boring and monotonous if done too much.

So I'm giving y'all the homework this month for September dos and don'ts month to try a new color you normally wouldn't. Grab that mustard skirt. Try out that green handbag. New colors abound for you and I assure you that you will be pleasantly surprised by trying out something new.

And lest you think I don't practice what I preach, I already did my September new color homework. I've very much been a clear/light pinky nail polish on my fingers rut. You didn't notice as quickly when they chip, and I found them more appropriate for the workplace. But my workplace now is wherever I'm taking BabyWP and she really doesn't find color on my nails inappropriate. She just finds them super interesting. So on Friday I got on the browns for nails parade and tried out Essie's new color "very structured"
[Those are not my feet in the background, they're Mr. EWP's]

If you're looking for a changeup for your nail color, try out what's the latest trend: taupe! Or, as my friend Carina says, "mannequin hands." As in your nails and skin blend into each other and give a mannequin look. I couldn't pull the trigger on full on mannequin, but going with the brown I did was a big leap from clear if I do say so myself.

If you want to try out a taupe, try Chanel's Inattendu or Essie's Case Study.

Socks & Shoes

It seems everywhere I've looked lately - Sea of Shoes, magazines, sites, etc. - all I saw were socks with shoes.

I love fun socks.

I love shoes.

This is a trend I had to at least try.

Disclaimer: I am fully aware that socks and shoes is not exactly a law firm appropriate look and wouldn't recommend it, but I'm doing contract doc review on a floor that is inhabited by me and a bunch of crates, so I really could care less what I wore to work. So it seemed like the perfect time for a trend trial.

So here I am in my socks and heels glory:

I actually really liked it but may try a shorter sock instead of a knee sock next time. And, honestly, it'd look much better if not paired with a maternity dress. But, whatever, it was fun shakeup for my wardrobe.

And, yes, I did get weird looks from lots of people. The trend isn't exactly mainstream just yet. But I'm happy to be an early adopter. It's fun to experiment. But, as Foodiebia said, "Socks are for strangers." I.e. Not to be worn to dinner tonight with my husband's co-workers. I'll save my fashion-forwardness for another time.

What do you think of socks and shoes?

Trend Watch: Men's Oxfords... For Women

I've been seeing a lot of these lately in magazines, style shows, and blogs:

I haven't said anything because I was hoping if I didn't acknowledge them, then they wouldn't exist. But then I was asked a few times what I thought of this recent style trend and I realized sticking my head in the ground ostrich-style wasn't going to save me from them.

So here's the EWP official stance on men's oxfords as women's footwear: I don't like them. I don't like them at all.

If you've ever read this blog, you know that I'm all about feminine shoes. Sure I can get down with a gladiator heel - but that's sexy. Sure I can get down with flats - but of the ballet, girly variety. Wearing a men's-type shoe as a woman is just against all the EWP laws. It's just the shape and style is so unflattering. The chunky little block heel doesn't do anything for your leg. And the lace-up style doesn't do anything for your feet. It's not like you can pair these with a dress, and, well, I mostly only wear dresses. I couldn't even imagine wearing these with jeans (which I do sometimes wear).

These get a big fat EWP stamp of disapproval.

What do you think, readers? Agree? Strongly disagree? I'm always up for some footwear debate!
