Hi EWP,
I have a cocktail-length dress to wear to a formal overseas wedding. It's blue and it's polyester/spandex - not my favorite material, but I think it's dressy enough and I think it will pack well. I'm planning to wear it with a black pashmina, and I think it looks cute with a pair of closed-toe (late November) black flat leather shoes that I have, but I'm not sure if I need to wear satin shoes for a dressy event. The last formal wedding I went to, I purposely wore my not-as-cute satin shoes, but noticed that plenty of ladies wore leather and they looked nice. What do you think?
P.S. I know if this were you, you would jump at the excuse to buy more shoes...that's not really my thing, but I will if I have too!
You're right, I would jump at the chance to buy more shoes, but for you I shall show some restraint :)I have a cocktail-length dress to wear to a formal overseas wedding. I definitely don't think satin is required for wedding footwear. It's about the style more than the material. I, myself, wore leather shoes to my own wedding -- but in a metallic strappy heel -- no satin required. I'm breaking those same shoes out again for the formal wedding I'm attending next month.
That said, I think a heel would be dress up your look much more than a flat. And make your gams look hot. Flats are definitely a more casual look, and if this event is formal, you should try looking into some heels, even if it's a short one, just a little bit helps dress it up.
