Fashion Decision '08: Michelle Obama for First Lady of Fashion

It's an election year, and like all other people in the country, the decision comes down to one question: Who will be the better dressed first lady?

Okay, so that may not be how I pick my presidential candidate, but a person does have to think a little bit about the potential First Lady and how she will represent us around the world. Will she be a Jackie O (understated elegance and grace) or a Barbara Bush (matronly and depressing)?

So I give you the candidates: Michelle Obama v. Cindy McCain:
I'm so tired of first ladies and their feeling that they must wear pant suits from Chicos in all sorts of unflattering and garish colors.
And while Mrs. McCain may have faired slightly better than Mrs. Bush at the Republican Convention in the outfit department, she still missed the mark, and definitely is missing the warmness that a First Lady needs (she does have a lot of hospital visits to make, afterall). I think Tim Gunn, fashion expert of the world, said it best when he said, "Cindy McCain looks like someone has twisted her ponytail into a knot and tried to give her a face-lift." And how can we forget his followup of, "Cindy with her suits and she's all buttoned up, she's just soooo — she just looks like she's duct-taped!" Oh, Tim Gunn, how right you are.

Now I give you Michelle Obama. I must say never in my life have I ever been impressed with a candidate's wife's wardrobe: Republican or Democrat. But I think it speaks to the message of change and sweeping out the cobwebs of out of touch Washington that we have a candidate's wife who is so well-dressed, modern, professional, inspiring, and, what makes her so alluring, confident and warm. I give you the evidence:

This last one is SO my favorite. How fashion forward, yet feminine and demure is that ruffled collar? *sigh* I love that look and wish I owned it.

There you have it folks, WWFL's pick for First Lady of Fashion '08: Michelle Obama.
